The film by director Tom Hooper is about the English King George VI. (Colin Firth), who stuttered severely in the years before his reign. With the help of his wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) and the Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), he is working on his speech ability. When he becomes king, broke out shortly after the war in Europe, which means numerous public speeches that he has - for a stutterer the purest agony
by his wife, who strengthens him back again and again and believe in him and especially by Lionel, who him with modern psychological and sensitive means of his self-confidence piece by piece returns, George creates it slowly, to become a better speaker.

particularly Colin Firth as a sensitive and profound self-doubt plagued prince, finally, in a Europe on the eve of the 2nd World War II still has to be king, is incredibly good. I personally like it not really so, but in this movie he really stands out. I hope he wins an Oscar, he deserves it.

Even Geoffrey Rush as the odd, unconventional Australian, who finally accepts himself to a king no bones about it, plays great and is completely in the role.

The intimate relationship of George VI. and his wife Elizabeth, by the way the parents of the current British Queen, is played by Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter very touching.

(And Firth sees in the royal uniform from even moderately well: D.)
